Hidden Treasures of Darkness
                                                                        By Ruby Underwood

In 1995 we were in the midst of a long dark trial.  God spoke to us that He was going to give us hidden treasures of

“I will give you the treasures of darkness, And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord,
who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.”  Isaiah 45:3

When we’re going through what we may call a dark place in our lives, we don’t always get it.  We need to realize that
these times are designed to be treasures from God. There are actually riches stored in secret places.

These riches and treasures?  The only way you can get these treasures [some treasures, not all treasures, but some]
is in the dark secret places. At the time we’re going through something, we don’t usually see the treasures because of
the hardships that we’re experiencing. We have to get a hold of the fact that they have a particular purpose from
God's viewpoint.

You see, unless we are cast into times of darkness in our lives, we will never experience God’s faithfulness in those
areas, we will never know how personal He is, or that He can be trusted. There are treasures in the Lord Jesus:
treasures of salvation, treasures of pardon in His precious blood, treasures of grace, treasures of righteousness.
There are precious, hidden riches that are stored up in secret depths.  And the Lord wants to bring forth these
revealed truths to the eyes and hearts of His believing children.

There is such fullness and depth in the Word of God.  Such sweet and  precious promises.  Such beauty in Jesus,
such love in His heart, such virtue in His atoning blood,  such joy and peace in believing.  These riches of secret
places surpass all the earthly wealth and exceed in value thousands and millions of gold and silver.

I would not have conceived that there was such power in the Word of God to heal, to cast down, and to lift up had I
not gone through some trials and testings - some dark and difficult times.  I would not have learned that
“There is a
friend that sticketh closer than a brother”
had I not gone through betrayal.  I would not have experienced God’s love
for me and my family had I not gone through some lean times.

It is by getting into these blessed secrets, by handling these treasures and obtaining possession of these riches that
we come to realize and know just how faithful God is.  It’s not just about knowing - having the knowledge - and not just
seeing the riches, but to be put in possession of them.  It’s about being called out of the knowledge of the world and
being called to a knowledge of Him.

“Called you by name” is a special work of grace upon our heart.  It’s about being called out of the knowledge of the
world and being called to a knowledge of Him.  It’s talking about having His seal upon us - upon our heart.  God wants
each of us to know that we are  “summoned by name”  Every hair of our head is numbered.  He knows every activity
we are involved in.  His love for you and me knows no bounds, and He will take every opportunity to demonstrate this
to us.

We just can’t know unless we’ve had some trials or afflictions, some oppositions.  And in the midst of these difficult
times He can manifest to us His power and His presence and His grace.

Give me trials so I can experience and know God’s mercy in them.
Give me burdens so that I can experience God’s support under them.
Give me afflictions so that I can experience and receive God’s comfort in them.
Give me temptations that I may know God’s grace to deliver me out of them.
Give me Confrontations with the enemy so that I might know how sweet Victory in Jesus is.

Trust God to reveal to you - personally - those hidden treasures that can be found in darkness.

A cocoon feels like a womb.  A womb feels like a tomb.  It is a dark, secret place.  It’s tight and narrow.  Something
inside there dies so that something new can come forth.  And when that new thing comes forth, it no longer has to
crawl around slow, slow, slow, but it comes forth with wings to fly - speedily!  It doesn’t crawl around anymore!  It flies!

You and many others are leaving where you’ve been and you’re going forth with wings: to fly, to soar, to see further,
to go further - totally transformed from where your were to where you’re going.   Submit to the Holy Spirit for that new
thing to come forth in your life.
